The Gulf coast of Galveston Island is built up on top of a seawall. The only way to get to the beach at the bottom of the seawall is by going down one of several sets of concrete stairs like this one.
The beach is a strip of sand, wider in some places and thinner in others. During high tide, the water crashes against the bottom of this set of stairs.
